My cleaning lady refilled our water urn- is it ok? Or I need to take out the plug or put different water in? And does it matter if she actually put the plug in?
A non-Jew may boil water for a Jewish person. There are two prerequisites that must be met for a food to be included in the issur of bishul akum. The food must be inedible when raw, and the food must be Oleh Al Shulchan Melochim – fit to be served at a king’s table. A food which does not fulfill both of these requirements does not have the restrictions of bishul akum. Water is drunk without being cooked, therefore there is no prohibition of Bishul Akum on water heated by a non-Jew.
