Rinsing a Baby’s Hands and Crumb-Covered Silverware in the Pesach Sink

Question

Is it okay to rinse a baby’s hands in the Pesach kitchen sink, and if the baby touches Pesach silverware while his hands are covered in crumbs, can the silverware be rinsed in the Pesach kitchen sink?

Answer

Rinse it; yes, it may be done in the Pesach sink, with cold water.

Sources

The Shulchan Aruch rules that when meat and cheese touch each other cold, both remain permitted; one only needs to rinse the place where they touched. The same principle applies here: when cold crumbs touch the silverware or the baby’s hands, nothing is absorbed. A rinse with cold water is enough, so it may be done in the Pesach sink.

  • Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De’ah 91:1 — meat and cheese that touched while cold are permitted; one only needs to rinse the place of contact
