Question

What does the Rabbi pasken about pregnant and nursing women fasting on Yom Kippur? What special circumstances exempt them?

Answer

Pregnant and nursing women need to fast.

Sources

The Shulchan Aruch rules plainly that pregnant and nursing women fast and complete the fast on Yom Kippur. The source is the Gemara in Pesachim, where Rava teaches that pregnant and nursing women fast and complete their fast on Tisha B’Av “just as they fast and complete it on Yom Kippur.” This shows that on Yom Kippur they are fully obligated.
