Peninei Halacha rules that someone who blessed on food or drink while travelling on the road does not treat moving from place to place as an interruption, “since the whole road is his place.” His first bracha therefore covers all his drinking along the way. The Chayei Adam likewise writes that travellers may keep eating as they go if that was their intent when they made the bracha. They need no new bracha even when they can no longer see the place where they started.

The Mishnah Berurah explains why. Travellers never fixed themselves to eat in the place where they blessed; they intended only to walk and eat. So they are not considered to have uprooted themselves from their place, even when they cannot see their original spot.

  • Peninei Halacha, Berakhot 9:7 — one who blessed on eating or drinking while travelling on the road is not interrupted by changing place, since the whole road is his place
  • Chayei Adam 59:11 — travellers who intended at the bracha to eat along the way need not bless again, even when they no longer see their first place
  • Mishnah Berurah 178:42 — travellers may walk and eat even when they cannot see their original place, since they never fixed a place and are not considered to have uprooted themselves

Borei Minei Besamim — Neither tree nor herb, a mixture, or a doubt. Said on anything, it covers it after the fact
