It is a great virtue to read Tehillim from parchment written by an expert scribe (sofer).
Sources and Explanations
The holy Steipler, in Kerayna D’Igrata (vol. 2, letter 272), writes that saying Tehillim from a sefer Tehillim written properly according to halacha, in holiness, by an expert scribe is most desirable and most accepted. He explained that the intent is that the entire Tehillim be written like a shirah (song layout), as explained in Masechet Soferim at the beginning of chapter 3 and in Minchat Shai at the beginning of Tehillim, for so was the practice of the early generations.
He added there that if such a Tehillim is brought into the beit knesset, a celebration should be held, and it is a celebration of a mitzvah.
